JetPack Plugin Adds Mobile Theme Support
JetPack is the jack-of-all-trades plugin from the creators of WordPress.
JetPack has been around for a while now, it started out rather rough, unpolished and somewhat bloated (from a performance perspective). That criticism being said (and heard by the developers), now finds the plugin as a very robust and quite helpful addition to your arsenal of site tools.
The end-goal of JetPack is to bring functionality from the hosted WordPress.com platform to blogs that are self-hosted.
Today Automattic rolled out a mobile module for JetPack that promises to automatically optimize your site for mobile devices.
In an email from Automattic design engineer, Christopher Finke,
…Jetpack’s Mobile Theme displays your content in a clean, uncluttered interface, making it easy for mobile visitors to scan your site. We took special care to make the mobile theme as lightweight as possible to ensure quick navigation and fast loading times for those sometimes spotty mobile connections.
The mobile theme is opt-in, so you’ll have to manually enable it from the Jetpack dashboard.
You can download JetPack directly from the WordPress plugin repository here.
